"You can't call the shit a war... wars end."
Unfortunately, that line was written by creator of HBO's "The Wire", David Simon, and not any of the folks in the L.A.Times' Sunday headliner: Is the U.S. Winning This War?. Not surprisingly, almost everyone asked actually has a 'yes' or 'no' answer, excluding former pass-fail student Henry "Hank" Crumpton, the State Department's Coordinator for Counterterrorism and former lead CIA covert operative in Afghanistan, who added, "It's hard for me to give it an A or an F. It's a real mixed bag." I give your quote a C-minus, Hank.
So watch "The Wire" tonight at 10PM or whenever it's rerun because it's better than real life.
Also, head over to XXL for Baltimore native Bossman's "A-Yo" for a taste of Charm City slanguage, and then go read Jon Caramanica's NY Times article on "The Wire"'s use of Baltimore rap in Season 4.
P.S. A brief suspension of the moratorium on profanity here for a heartfelt FUCK YOU to The Walt Disney Company and ABC for broadcasting "The Path to 9/11" on the fifth anniversary of 9/11.
Feel free to contact ABC, Inc. to let them know how classy, compassionate and responsible they are:
